Interesting. You make people waste their tickets finding out how and when the maybe guys lie and tell the truth by feeding them potential information. Of course, this could just as easily backfire: what if noone will find the proper information for you?

Sagaro, is the first digit a number less than 4? Nope: it is four or higher.

Nearco Is the predetermined condition the time of day the question is asked? Yes, the predetermined condition is based on the time of the day.

Hey, I just thought of something: There is a total of 10 000 combinations, one of which is the passcode. For every question about the code we propose a set, and confirm whether or not the passcode is within the set. Provided we know when the dealer in question is lying, we will be able to narrow down our answers this way; if yes, the passcode is within the set, and we just have to look at all combinations within it ( that overlaps with other correct sets, and doesn't with incorrect ones ), and if no, we just have to exclude all the combinations in the set. However, the likeliness of a set being confirmed is directly proportional to the number of combinations within the set; that is we are most likely travelling the slowest path. So here is what I suggest: we each propose a multum of sets and ask if the code is in at least one of them. If no, we have excluded several combinations at once. If yes, then at least we know where to look; and even in the worst case scenario we at least need not ask one question, due the process of elimination.

I think the problem with this is that it requires cooperation and there is only one winner. Everybody wants to find the code their own way as it would mean they're the only one who knows it. If it's done too obviously whoever is there when the dealer answers would win - which would suck.
We'll get the code ourselves eventually, it just takes more tickets trying to do it secretly, which I'm sure the dealers know.

Barbaro, is the second digit greater than or equal to 5?
Oh, that's a good idea, Moustachebeard, except it's really based a lot on luck. For example, you've already said there's other 10K possibilities. We'd have to make 1K combinations per post, and we'd just be in a similar spot as to what we are in right now. And more than likely, one of the dealers will just say a sarcastic question. More than anything, that's also breaking the rules of asking more than 1 question, since that's a fairly large compound question.

The second digit is not greater than or equal to 5.
And the question in question is not illegal. It's perfectly legitimate to ask if the code is above or below 5000, for example.

This is not a code question, but then would it be okay if you asked something like this:
Is the answer one of these: 5001 5002 5003 5004 5005 5006 etc.
To me, that'd seem like a really, really large compound question.
Oooooh, you were saying compound questions are legal.

As long as we can answer a single Yes or No to the question, and it is relevant, it is legal.
